I love desitin, its the only kind of diaper rash cream i can use on my girls.  If you like it too, here is a free coupon for a dollar off.  Below are some diapering tips as well.

Where and When to Change the Diaper

Advance preparation is essential before changing a diaper.

  • Have all the items you might need available:
      – Diapers
      - DESITIN® diaper rash ointment
      - Baby wipes or damp wash cloth
      - Diaper pail
      - Hamper for soiled baby clothes
      - Change of clothes
      - Plastic diaper cover (if using cloth diapers)
      - Crib mobile and/or toy to keep your baby occupied
  • Place your baby on a changing table or appropriate surface that allows you and your baby to be comfortable and safe. Never leave your baby unattended, even for a second!
  • Keep a hand on your baby at all times.
  • Change the wet and/or soiled diaper promptly.
  • Many babies need to be changed after a feeding. Checking your babies diaper as part of the feeding routine and changing if soiled or wet can help reduce the occurrence of diaper rash.

Cleaning Your Baby and Changing the Diaper

  • After removing the diaper, clean the diaper area thoroughly with a disposable wipe or washcloth with warm water and soap.
  • A girl should be cleaned from front to back to avoid getting bacteria into the urethra.
  • Cover a boy’s penis with a soft cloth to prevent getting splashed by unexpected urination.
  • Blot dry, don’t rub. Carefully and gently dry between skin folds and creases.
  • Apply a diaper rash ointment such as DESITIN® to the diaper area to help prevent diaper rash.
  • Open diaper, slip baby’s bottom into diaper. If using disposable diapers, adhesive tabs should be in back. Pull up front of diaper and tape adhesive tabs across top at baby’s waist. Waist should be snug, but not tight.
  • If using cloth diapers, use diaper pins and keep your hand between diaper and baby to avoid risk of a pin prick.
  • To help prevent diaper rash, let your baby’s bottom air dry. During this time you can play games (This Little Piggy…), sing songs (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) and enjoy a little bonding.
